I am looking for an efficient solution to digitise a real road in my area in CarMaker Scenario/Road Editor. I am currently carrying out real measurement runs on this road, which will then be further compared with a driving simualtor by using CarMaker. As this is a fairly complex 35 km stretch of road on a country road, it would probably take a few weeks to recreate it exactly. The road section has many slip roads, sometimes several lanes and is in a mountainous region. In the UsersGuide I came across the options with Import from Here HD Live Map, KML file and OpenDrive file, but after some research, try and error I unfortunately didn’t get any further. Now I’m asking you for help. What would be the best approach for my project?
Hello,
A KML file can be imported directly into CarMaker. However, a KML file only contains the coordinates of one stretch of road from A to B, no information on lanes, road size and geometry, no junctions, etc. Usually KML is a good starting point. You can import it as a single-lane road and then start adding the correct road size and lanes afterwards.
A HERE HD Maps import can include a whole road network, not just an A to B road. it contains information about the real road lanes, junctions, and additional things like traffic signs, etc. This is a significantly better option as a starting point. It still needs to be tweaked a bit in Scenario Editor to ensure the import worked correctly. The downside is that HERE HD requires a separate licence and is quite expensive for non-OEM customers.
