In my road network o have a few junctions with left turning lanes. Right now those left turning lanes face in the wrong direction. If I add a lane with the lane tool it gets added on the right side of the link and not on the left. By adding lanes on the right the link doesn’t connect correctly with the link below. Is there a way to add a lane on the left with the setup shown in the screenshot?

I see that the new lane you are trying to add, is to the left of the center line (CarMaker terminology: Reference line). If you add a lane to the right of the reference line, the lane will have the direction as the other 3 lanes.
Now delete the R1 lane and then create a lane on the other side of the reference line.
After adding the new lane, it now looks something like this
